Chinese Students Obtained Good Results at the 52nd IChO

The 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad was held online in Istanbul, Turkey from July 23 to 29,2020. Due to the global COVID-19 epidemic, the traditional lab-based examination was cancelled. The competition was conducted fully online with only the theoretical examination. 

Entrusted by China Association for Science and Technology, the online theoretical examination was organized by Chinese Chemical Society in Zhengzhou University. The Chinese team consisted of 8 members, led by mentors from Peking University. 4 of the participants were selected by the Chinese Chemistry Olympiad superintend by China Association for Science and Technology. 

Eventually, Chinese high school students Gu Yuntian, Zhang Zhuoyang, Li Letian and Sun Haonan won 3 gold and 1 silver medals. Gu Yuntian ranked third in the global list. 

The 52nd International Chemistry Olympiad was co-organized by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Industry and Technology and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. More than 240 participants from 60 countries and regions took part in the competition, resulting in 26 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals. The 53rd International Chemistry Olympiad will be held in Osaka, Japan in 2021.
