The 34th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC) Kicks-off in Macao SAR of China

The Opening Ceremony of 34th CASTIC was held in University of Macau on July 22nd 2019. In total around 1500 finalists, guests and science educators from over 50 countries and regions took part in this event. Dr. Huai Jinpeng, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Secretary of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Dr. Alexis, Tam Chon Weng, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau SAR, China attended and delivered welcome speeches on the ceremony.

In the speech, Dr. Huai Jinpeng pointed out that after 40 years of innovation and development, CASTIC has become a youth’s friend at home and abroad, where science-loving students show their creative talents, pursue their scientific dreams and learn from each other. It has become an important platform for science educators at home and abroad to share ideas and work together. Teenagers are the future of the country. They are the hope of science. We believe that the young friends will face the coming wave of scientific and technological revolution, be brave in exploring and be pioneers of scientific and technological innovation in the new era. We hope that young friends will always maintain the courage and confidence to strive for the first place and stand out from the competition. It is also hoped that the young scientists should also be good at discovering, communicating and cooperating so as to make the competition a platform for displaying new ideas, exchanging new ideas and promoting new friendship. The brilliant performance of all young scientists in CASTIC will present the 70th  anniversary of the founding of P.R.China and 20th anniversary of Macao's return with outstanding achievements.

At the invitation of organizing committee of 34th CASTIC, the world renowned mathematician, Dr. Shing-tung Yau, the laureate of Fields Medal and professor of Mathematics and Physics at Harvard University, and Mr. Lin Ming, the Chief Engineering of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Island and Tunnel Project gave the keynote speeches of the opening ceremony to inspire young scientists with spirits of science and innovation.

CASTIC is designed and built for science-loving students. After more than 30 years development, CASTIC is now the most prestigious and largest science contest in Asia for young scientists from all parts of the world. Besides contest, all participants have chance to engage in science and technology, experience various local cultures and traditions and build a friendship for lifetime through different exchanging activities during the CASTIC.
