The Chinese Team Ranks First Place for Second Straight Time at 61st IMO

The 61st International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2020), which was planned to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, was held online from September 18 to 28, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After two days of hard work solving six mathematical problems, 6 contestants of the Chinese team won 5 gold and 1 silver medals, which defended China's top place in gold medal tally.

With 30 points ahead of the team at the second place, the Chinese team ranked the first place of group performance for the second straight time.

The contestants of the Chinese team swept top three prizes of individual scores in the competition. Li Jinmin of Bashu Secondary School in Chongqing won the first prize of individual scores with the only perfect score in this year's competition.

A total of 616 contestants from 104 countries and regions participated in this year's mathematical Olympiad.

The Russian team ranked the second place of group performance with two gold and four silver medals, and the U.S. team ranked the third place with three gold and three silver medals.

The leader and deputy leader of the Chinese team were Xiong Bin and He Yijie of East China Normal University.
